What and how do I use to get rid of wrinkles on my face?
Avoid getting deeper wrinkles! Especially in wrinkle-prone areas, use sunscreen every day.
Every night, apply retinoids. These could be a prescription retinoid like Tretinoin (Retin-A) or an over the counter retinol product like the one from Luisa - True Skincare, my own brand.
As a rule, prescription retinoids are more powerful than over-the-counter retinol. But they’re also very expensive (even with insurance) and more aggressive.
Some of my customers use both. They use tretinoin 3 times a week and 0.5% retinol the remaining days.
This is entirely up to you.
Exfoliate regularly. I recommend chemical exfoliation for anti-aging and wrinkles. If you have mature skin with deep wrinkles, opt for glycolic acid. Conversely opt for something milder like mandelic or lactic acid.
Exfoliate 2 or 3 times a week only. These chemical peels must be used at night as they can make your skin more sensitive to the sun- you definitely don’t want that!
Keep your skin hydrated and moisturized. When the skin is dry & dull wrinkles look even more prominent. A simple hyaluronic acid serum and moisturizer do the trick!
Apply these two in the morning. I use a hyaluronic acid serum multiple times a day because the AC makes my face feel dehydrated - but even once or twice a day is okay.
Supplement your diet with nutrients that are good for your skin. I’m referring to collagen and its precursors: hyaluronic acid (already covered), vitamin C.
Collagen keeps your skin elastic (= not saggy) and it’s also beneficial for tendons, muscles, hair, and nails.
Get anti-oxidants and anti-inflammatory like turmeric, Q10 and flavonoids. Oxidative stress is the #1 cause of aging. Antioxidants applied directly to the skin AND taken orally should always belong to your anti-aging arsenal.
Reduce or eliminate alcohol and opt for red wine when you do drink. Don’t smoke, vape, or take drugs. All these make your skin look older.
Exercise regularly & increase your heart beat. The effort will send more oxygen to the cells and keep them vital!
Sleep at least 6 hours every night. Lack of sleep may result in eye bags and dark circles which accentuate wrinkles. Looking tired doesn’t help either.
Reduce stress as much as you can. Chronic Stress can trigger chronic inflammation which is never good news for the skin.
Combining as many of these as you can is your best bet. There’s also botox to get rid of wrinkles, but you’re gonna have to do it every 3 to 6 months and it can be quite expensive
